Winter is Coming

Ah, that takes me back.. but, this is not an article about George R.R. Martin, for who I have nothing but respect. This is an article about keeping your herbs going over the winter.

I have newly established Chive and Flat Leaf Parsley growing in my garden and have decided to bring them in this year. I don’t think they are well enough established to survive heavy ground frosts or snow.

Herbs transplanted into glass jars with crushed egg shells and garlic skins.

So I lifted them today and potted them in some surplus jars with crushed eggshell and garlic skins to act as a fertiliser and improve the soil nutrients. The glass containers allow me to see root growth and also monitor soil moisture. I am hoping they will continue to grow inside providing me with herbs through the winter months and I can plant them out again next year.

If anyone has any tips on growing herbs indoors through the winter please leave a comment and let me know.
