Chives

Chives, Allium schoenoprasum, are something of dark horse. My sources say they are an appetite stimulant, can aid digestion during recover from illness and may prevent infections and anemia. However, online sources also claim chives are linked to memory function, may prevent or fight against cancer and promote bone density.

Considered a superfood due to the vitamins, antioxidants, dietary fibre, and bioactive compounds found within this perennial herb, chives are certainly something I would recommend working into your diet in moderation. Excessive consumption may cause indigestion.

I use chives to boost flavour in cooked meals and salads. They are also another favourite with bees when in flower mid to late Spring.
