Natural Hair Care

I have been researching natural hair care. I have made a conditioner out of rosemary leaves which has been effective but not as nourishing as I would like. So, my next attempts involve Aloe vera, rosemary, tea tree, and walnut oil.

I would recommend the rosemary conditioner. All you do is steep rosemary leaves in hot water, drain it to remove the leaves after about 20 minutes and then pour it through your hair after you have washed it and rinsed out any shampoo. You don’t need to rinse out the conditioner.

It does a good job, but on thick, dry or older hair it is not as effective.

My current method is using Aloe vera. I found some suggestions for extracting the mucus like gel inside the leaves but it’s tricky and messy, and I lost more of the gel than I kept. So, I thought I would try and finely chop the leaf and gel together and use that as a conditioner to be rinsed out after application.

I found that the conditioner caused a mild irritation to my skin around my hairline which I believe was caused by the presence of the green part of the leaf. So in my second attempt I just used the clear gel and the results were great. It is a good conditioning agent. To apply it I pulled one leaf from my Aloe vera plant and squeezed the gel out into my hand and applied it directly.

I am going to try tea tree next as a shampoo and am researching what I can mix it with, and walnut oil as a leave in conditioning oil. Walnut oil is attributed with promoting hair growth and lessening hair fall, as well as acting as an effective conditioner.
