Super Three (Immunity Boost)

Ingredients: Two garlic cloves, one teaspoon of root ginger (one cubic cm), and half a teaspoon of horseradish. All ingredients must be fresh, but if you struggle to get fresh horseradish, you can use half a teaspoon of dried horseradish root, just soak it first in a little boiling water, enough to cover the amount you are using.

Dose: To be taken daily

Preparation One: (This is the method I used at first and is great if you don't have a blender. However, I have since moved on to a different prep using a blender wand - see Preparation 2 Two below.)

  1. Crush the peeled garlic cloves and grate or finely chop peeled portions of the ginger and horseradish root.

  2. Melt two teaspoons of coconut oil in a pan and lightly fry the ingredients for 2-3 minutes.

  3. Add the ingredients to your chosen meal towards the end of preparation so as not to overcook.

Preparation Two: (The benefit of this method is that the mixture is raw and, as such, is more robust, and its consistency makes it easier to combine with other foods for consumption.)

  1. Mix the raw peeled garlic cloves and peeled and roughly chopped ginger and horseradish in a bowl and add a little water to aid the blending. Then place in a blender, or apply a blending wand, and blend the ingredients until they become a thick, smooth pulp. Or, simply grate all three and mix well.

Storage: You can prepare this in bulk by multiplying the above portions by the required number of days. I do not recommend preparing more than seven days' worth to ensure freshness. The preparation can be stored in your fridge in a sealed container for a week and added to meals as required.

In My Experience: I take this supplement because it makes me feel good. And it spices up most meals. Although you do have to be selective about what you add it to!

Serving Suggestions: This is great added to a mixed vegetable omelette at the same time as the egg or stirred into soup. I have also mixed it with mayonnaise and added it as a topping to any meal or used it in mixed salad wraps. The important thing is to add it late in the cooking process so it doesn't get overcooked and lose its potency.

Update: After a few months of taking this, I started to get a bit fed up with the taste and texture, so I tried a different preparation, hence Preparation Two! I have found the smooth texture easier to digest and have started adding it to other ingredients to make a dip or accompaniment for hot meals.

Preparation Two also made the flavours less overwhelming, particularly the horseradish, so I didn’t have to work so hard to cover their intensity.

Preparation Two mixes well with Greek yoghurt or mashed avocado. You can use it as a dressing or accompaniment to a meal. I have also added curry powder to the yoghurt and Super 3 mix and poured it over chicken, fish and or vegetables.

I update this article everytime I can’t face another dose of Super Three. But it is so good for me I have to keep taking it! I have had a four day break and daren’t risk any more. This is the one dietary addition I would recommend above any. So! Tonight I had it prepared raw and mixed in with mashed potato, black pepper and grated cheese, and topped with a spoon of chutney.

Reference: The health benefits of the ingredients, when taken individually, are well documented, but there is also research regarding the benefits of combining garlic and ginger. Many people use all three items and a few other ingredients to make Fire Cider, which again is taken to boost immunity. However, this is not supported by research despite its popularity. I take it to boost immunity and combat projections.
